Tellabration showcases local storytelling talents
Savannah Storytellers will host Tellabration 2003, Tales and Tea, Nov. 23 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Bull and 31st streets. The program begins at 3 p.m.; admission is $5.
Headlining the storytelling event will be J'miah Nabawi. Also on the program will be local storytellers Bess Chappas, Peggy Jones, Ronni Carpenter and Lois Smith. Master of ceremonies will be radio personality Bill Edwards.
J'miah has been a professional storytellers since 1986. Raised in Philadelphia, J'miah now resides in Savannah. He has presented storytelling programs across the U.S. to schools, libraries, museums, youth organizations, universities and corporations. He has worked with organizations such as Philadelphia World Affairs Council, Massachusetts Cultural Council, California Arts Council, Georgia State Arts Council, Young Audiences of Atlanta, South Carolina Arts Commission, and other local and state public service agencies.
J'miah employs a wide range of lively storytelling techniques, using music, drama, languages, and audience participation.
Tellabration is a worldwide storytelling event sponsored by the National Storytelling Association. It takes place the weekend before Thanksgiving in just about every community in the U.S. and in several foreign countries. The purpose of the event is to share stories with the public and showcase local storytelling talent.
