Books Ahoy! Dive in to reading at your library
Live Oak Public Libraries' 2003 Vacation Reading Program, "Books Ahoy!," will kick off May 28 at library branches in Chatham, Effingham and Liberty counties. In addition to reading incentives, this year's program will offer activities at all branches every week.
To sign up for the Vacation Reading Program, stop by any library branch to pick up the official "Books Ahoy!" folder. Then dive in to some great books with your child at the library. Participants will receive a "Books Ahoy!" prize from the library's seafaring treasure chest when you check out a book or read a book in the library. (Prizes are limited to one per day per reader.)
Each child will keep a record of all his or her reading in the "Books Ahoy!" folder. When a young reader has completed eight hours of reading from his or her favorite books or magazines, bring the folder back to any library to receive a "Books Ahoy!" certificate, one free book and an entry form for the grand prize family trip drawing.
For each additional eight hours of reading completed, young readers can enter the grand prize family trip drawing. (The deadline for entering the grand prize family trip drawing is July 26.)
To find out Vacation Reading Program activities and special events at your local branch, go to the library's web site, www.liveoakpl.org.
The final Vacation Reading Program event of the summer will be held Aug. 9, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at Grayson Stadium.
Highlights include games, entertainment and visits with the Savannah Sand Gnats.
