AASU hosting Third Annual Visual & Performing Arts Camp for Children

The Armstrong Atlantic State University Department of Art, Music & Theatre presents the third annual Visual and Performing Arts Camp for Ages 7-13, June 9-20. The intent of this camp is to involve young people in an exploration of the arts in a vibrant, creative atmosphere.

The Visual and Performing Arts Camp is open to talented students ranging in age from 7 to 13. Enrollment is limited; AASU recommends interested students to submit applications early.

Students will participate in a fun-filled adventure that will offer them the opportunity to engage in artistic experiences geared toward their age levels and abilities. Participants will work in an exploratory environment that will include at least three of the following art forms: visual art, dance, music, and drama. Students will learn skills and techniques as they study these art forms from critical, historical, aesthetic, and production viewpoints. They will also have the opportunity to develop their creative ideas and personal expressions in a production workshop.

The Summer Visual and Performing Arts Camp has a rolling admission process and will likely fill most openings for the 2003 camp by April 30. However, AASU is happy to supply information about current openings; simply call 912.927.5325. Tuition and fees total only $195 for two weeks (if application is postmarked or received after April 30) and include art supplies and materials. The fee for early enrollment (application postmarked by April 30) is only $175. Families registering two or more children will receive a 10 percent discount.

AASU seeks applicants for its Summer Visual Art Institute for high school students

The Armstrong Atlantic State University Department of Art, Music, & Theatre will hold it tenth annual Summer Visual Arts Institute for Talented High School Students June 23-July 2.

Held on the campus of AASU, the Summer Visual Arts Institute presents a chance for talented students to participate in a workshop with a faculty of studio artists/teachers and guest professional art educators.

The Institute is open to students between the rising ninth grade and 2003 high school graduates. Enrollment is limited; AASU recommends interested students to submit applications early.

Participants in the Visual Arts Institute will work in two- and three-dimensional media and will have opportunities to complete mixed media work in conjunction with computer art applications. Additionally, students will study art from critical, historical, aesthetic and production viewpoints.

Interested students must submit a completed application form, a letter of recommendation or portfolio of three recent artworks, and $35 processing deposit. (Art work should be representative of the student's artistic skills and background, and may be submitted in slide, print, digital, or original form. The artist should label each piece with the artist's name, address, and phone number. Letters of recommendation should be addressed to Dr. Tom Cato, head of Department of Art, Music & Theatre.)

The Visual Arts Institute tuition and fees total only $210 and include art supplies and materials. The fee for early enrollment (application postmarked by April 30) is only $185.

After April 30, however, acceptance in the institute will be based on available space.
