JULY IS COOL AT THE UGA AQUARIUM

Parent/child teams will spend the morning of July 19 learning about our fishy friends! Did you enjoy the movie "Finding Nemo?" Come to the aquarium on the north end of Skidaway Island and get a close look at some of the fish that live along the coast of Georgia and create your own fish art on a t-shirt! Participants need to bring their own t-shirt. Children must be accompanied by a paying adult.

10-11:30 a.m. Parents and children (ages 6-11) $4 per person. Call (912) 598-2335 for reservations (required).

On July 25, explore streamside buffer zones with a program called "Pretty, but what good are they?"

As suburban areas increase in coastal Georgia, wildlife and fish habitat disappears, flooding problems increase due to paved areas, and river water quality declines. Join Julie Vann, from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, at the University of Georgia Marine Education Center and Aquarium on the north end of Skidaway Island and learn what a good streamside buffer consists of and how it can be designed to benefit a homeowner's recreational use of their waterway as well as the environment.

7-8 p.m. Free for adults only. Call (912) 598-2335 for reservations (required).

Hospice Savannah Gallery

Bethesda Day School's art and photography students will display their end of year work at the Hospice Savannah Art Gallery, 6711 Laroche Ave., through July 31.

The show, "Expedition," is the work of the school's photography and visual arts classes. Each year a portion of the proceeds from the sale of the students' artwork is donated to charity. This year Bethesda students contributed more than $500 to our military troops serving in the Middle East.

Bethesda is the oldest existing program for boys of its kind in the nation. In 1740, George Whitefield sought to honor God by establishing a haven for orphaned children. This haven was named Bethesda, which means " house of mercy." Over the years, Bethesda has grown to include a school for residents and day students, an independent living program, a GED program, agricultural education programs, a video production program and many other extracurricular activities.

Currently, Bethesda Day School serves 68 students in grades 1-11. In 2004, the school will open a new multi-discipline education center and expand to include the 12th grade.

For more information on Bethesda and the programs offered, call (912) 351-2040 or for information about Hospice Savannah's Art Gallery, contact Siti A. Saleem, (912) 355-2289.
